Life...fear...

As life flashes before my eyes,
I cannot help but feel helpless
As its fleetingness
Overwhelms my soul.

Many days I do not understand.
I ask why, but get no answer,
I cry out for an answer
But I’m simply left with a mystery unsolved...unanswered.

Where does life disappear to?
Does it yearn for another world?
For an escape from the clasps of danger?
As it evaporates quickly into nothingness.

Or does life fear life itself?
Does the will to live haunt frightened minds?
For only the frightened run

As life runs from its beholder.

We were here...

Helen Keller once said: “I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do something I can do.” Every person dreams of making their mark in the world. It seems like nothing is more important than having people know that we were here, that we did something magnificent to change someone’s life.

In July of this year I once again found myself buying souvenirs at the Abu Dhabi airport, and I couldn’t help but wonder why. It’s not like I had seen the rest of the country, I was only there on layover to Germany. But still I wanted something to remind me that I was there, and to show other people that I was there.

After this experience I realized that people do not necessarily want to get noticed for the differences that they made, but simply because they were there. Helen Keller wrote such beautiful words such a long time ago. Words filled with hope for the world. But I am afraid that people have become lazy and would rather gather proof that they have seen the world than to actually spend some time and energy to make a difference to the world. People have turned Helen Keller’s selfless statement into a selfish one, one full of excuses to not do anything. It now says: “I am only one; I am not strong enough. I cannot do everything; therefore I won’t. I will not do what I cannot do.”

Too Little Time

Time comes
And time goes.
Time brings highs
And time brings lows.
But when time is gone
What will remain?
Maybe time
Is all in vain…

But time brings love
And time brings joy
And binds together
A special girl and boy.
Time moves us forward
Into a loving embrace,
And moves us back out again
After we’ve experienced love’s beautiful face.

So please God…
Won’t you give me more time?
To memorize this face
And write this rhyme.
So that when the world ends
I will have what is mine,
And know that I have

Made the best of my time.

Once upon a song

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.”- Victor Hugo.

Every song tells a story, the story of the heart of its writer. A song is a fairy
tale...a story of hope, no matter what the outcome. Capturing its listeners with a “Once upon a time” benevolence. And without meaning to you feel yourself swaying along to the tale of “Once upon a song.”

Whether you’re humming joyfully with a spring in your step, hiding under your desk with fear from some scary metal, or singing wholeheartedly to the newest song of the summer, music will change the way that you look at life.

Growing up I was classically trained in the violin and piano and was many a time afforded the chance to recite Mozart and Beethoven. These composers were of course classical music geniuses who built the foundation on which all other music is now created. Without the principles with which these symphonies were so artfully produced, music as we know it today would never have existed.

Imagine a life without Cole Porter accompanying mankind through the twenties, a life without the ingenuity of Freddie Mercury and Queen bringing inspiration to aspiring musicians around the world, or a life without Miley Cyrus bringing hope to teenagers hoping to become famous.

Most artists these days do what they do for fame, but at the end of the day it’s the minds of the people who simply let go and disappear into the world of their imagination where anything can happen.

Life would not be the same without a tune in your head or a beat in your foot. Without the tune of your life threatening to burst out day after day life simply could not be, because music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.

Love is at your Feet...

Maybe once or twice in your lifetime something extraordinary happens...you fall in love. But many times before love comes around, one can't help but wonder if it ever will. Sarah Dessen once said: "There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment." Without even looking for it it finds you...and before you know it love is at your feet.

While in Paris in the European summer of 2012 I came across a love that I would have never expected to find. Not a love for a man, but a love for a city. Although many might say that it is cliched to love Paris, I would say that it is inevitable. The quaint architecture and surprises around every corner simply pull you deeper into the belly of the beast. From the Eiffel Tower, to the Arc de Triomph, this beast's belly will churn you up and spit you out in little pieces, never to be the same again. After seeing a city come alive with lights and music and people excitedly talking in the streets in the middle of the night, couples slowly walking up and down the Champs Elesees, or experiencing the wonder of seeing the Mona Lisa smile in the Louvre Museum, no other city can live up to this marvellous city.

Love will catch you when you least expect it, and Paris captured my heart and swallowed it whole before I even had a chance to fully experience the splendour of what it had to offer. I had once again found love lurking at my feet...
